OL' BOB

Old Bob - He never made the social list.
Old Bob - If he wasn't there, he wasn't missed.
He never seemed to get much credit for,
Dumping the garbage and sweeping the floor.
But it wasn't you and me he did it for, - Old Bob

If you ever get to my church - you'll surely be welcome there.
You'll find every kind of member - we've even had a millionaire.
Rich and poor, great and small - when you come, you'll meet them all.
But make it a point to find, Old Bob.

Old Bob's been called the janitor - for fifteen years or so.
But it seems like he does everything. - There's not much he doesn't know.
From plumbing to electricity - his mechanical ability:
It still amazes me. - Old Bob.

Old Bob - He never made the social list.
Old Bob - If he wasn't there, he wasn't missed.
He never seemed to get much credit for,
Dumping the garbage and sweeping the floor.
But it wasn't you and me he did it for, - Old Bob

He always had his opinion. - ...always had a lot to say.
If you ever got him started, - then you couldn't get away.
He didn't say much about people - like other members might.
I think he might have been alright. - Old Bob.

He'd be there every morning. - He'd be there late at night.
Cleaning and polishing all week long - 'kept the church-house bright.
So that every Sunday morning - everything was ready to go.
And guess who made it so? - Old Bob.

Old Bob - He never made the social list.
Old Bob - If he wasn't there, he wasn't missed.
He never seemed to get much credit for,
Dumping the garbage and sweeping the floor.
But it wasn't you and me he did it for, - Old Bob

No one ever treated him special - for all the time he spent.
He was always taken for granted - everywhere he went.
'Lots of folks would have quit for that. - But, Bob's found where the blessings are at.
It's time we took off our hat - to Old Bob.

With all that he's been given, - Bob could do about anything.
But, he's chosen to keep the church-house - - fit for a king.
And when my son gets old enough - to find himself a job,
I pray that he'll remember - Old Bob.

Old Bob - He never made the social list.
Old Bob - If he wasn't there, he wasn't missed.
He never seemed to get much credit for,
Dumping the garbage and sweeping the floor.
But it wasn't you and me he did it for, - Old Bob
