ALONG THE WAY TO HAPPINESS
by
Kent E. Gunnison ©

Two men, on vacation, one day,
Stopped to chat, as they met on the way.
Both equally dressed;
Each other, impressed.
Let's listen, to hear what they say.

The first was excited as ever.
He said, "This has been quite an endeavor.
"For years, have I slaved,
"My pennies, I've saved,
" 'Till, enough, I had gathered together."

"Each moment reveals a new joy.
"I feel as a ten-year-old-boy.
"Now, I know this must end,
"But, I'll tell you, my friend,
"I'll have memories that time can't destroy."

When the second man spoke, you could tell
That he didn't enjoy his as well.
"... I have money to spend
" 'Till it seems it won't end."
As he spoke, his own countenance fell.

"I've been so many places before.
"I've had everything laid at my door.
"There's nothing I find
"That pleases my mind.
"I don't smile very much anymore."

Both men, at that moment in time,
With differing view-points, we find.
Not due to the day,
But, to the road on the way,
That molded each one's state-of-mind.

So, why should I cry and complain?
If today is surrounded by rain?
It's a step on the way
To a sunnier day.
I'll be happier - smiling again.
