EVEN IF . . . .

Written to my wife, Beth

Even if time takes your beauty and charm;
...Mellows your heart, 'til it's no longer warm;
...Troubles our lives with tempest and storm;
I'll never stop lovin' you.

Even if people we meet on the way,
Should pull us aside, or should cause us to stray;
Darlin' I know, until my dyin' day,
I'll never stop lovin' you.

Haven't you found in this life that we share,
A whole lot of people are lonely out there.
'Lookin' for someone with a heart that will care.
Well, your lookin' days are through.

Even if money or fame should arrive;
Even if failure or poverty thrive;
Darlin', I know, for the rest of our lives,
I'll never stop lovin' you.

Even if someone would take you away;
Even if you ever wanted to stray;
Even if I cried till my dyin' day;
I'll never stop lovin' you.

Haven't you found in this life that we share,
A whole lot of people are lonely out there.
'Lookin' for someone with a heart that will care.
Well, your lookin' days are through.

Even if age makes my memory fail,
And I forget that I wrote you this tale;
Darlin' I know, till I'm broken and frail,
I'll never stop lovin' you.

Even if I'd never met you one day;
And even if our lives had gone separate ways;
Something inside would be longing to say,
"I'll never stop lovin' you."
